Eagles Exploit Bills’ Run Defense, Take Bills Mafia Down a Peg

Sound the alarms, Buffalo has two losses heading into the ninth week of the season. After the Philadelphia Eagles rolled past the Bills at home, many fans were ready to call this season over. Despite a 3-4 record (now 4-4), this Eagles team is legit and should honestly be the leader of the NFC East. Injuries and poor play calling have held this team back from it’s true potential and Buffalo saw that Sunday. Let’s break down this loss for the Bills.

Run Defenseless

Buffalo is a top five defense in the NFL and that is a fact. Unfortunately, you wouldn’t have been able to tell by watching them Sunday. The Bills uncharacteristically allowed 208 rushing yards on the game. Despite bottling Carson Wentz, the Eagles still ran it up on the Bills because they couldn’t stop a thing on the ground.

Feed The Dogs

In a game where weather was certainly a factor, everyone thought both teams would ground and pound. One of the two teams did that and that team won. Buffalo’s running backs took a combined twelve rushing attempts. The Bills have two talented backs in Frank Gore and Devin Singletary and it is a general consensus is that the backs aren’t getting enough attention in games, let alone one where they would thrive. Due to injury, Philadelphia’s weakest point on defense was their front seven, so failing to capitalize on that was icing on the cake.

Who’s there? Rookie Dawson Knox has looked spectacular through the first five weeks and is now disappearing. Tyler Kroft is now back from injury and his insertion into the offense has called for a decline in Knox’s targets and snaps. Knox should be the starter moving forward with Kroft in a smaller role.

On To Washington

The Bills get to host the 1-7 Redskins to finish out their three game home stand. This is as close as a must-win for the Bills as it gets. Playing a terrible team starting a rookie back up quarterback at home is a needed win for a team that needs every game it can get. Hopefully head coach Sean McDermott can make the necessary adjustments to the defense.
